State Rep. Mike Hoadley (R-Au Gres) today introduced a bill which would exclude those licensed to carry a concealed pistol from the rules of gun-free zones. Under House Bill 4213, individuals with a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) would be able to carry their weapons in areas designated as gun-free zones.
“Individuals who are licensed to carry concealed weapons undergo additional training, screening, and education,” Hoadley said. “Not only are these some of our safest and most law-abiding citizens, they’re also the most capable to take down a threat if one arises.”
Hoadley believes this legislation and expanded gun rights for responsible citizens will help curb gun violence and additional crime within the zones.
“Bad actors and those looking to do harm don’t abide by the laws and limitations of gun-free zones,” Hoadley said. “Having trained gun owners in these zones, many of whom are veterans and former law enforcement officers, makes these zones safer. These individuals are best suited to defend themselves and those around them immediately, rather than waiting for first responders.”
