State Rep. Doug Wozniak joined his colleagues for a Wednesday morning press conference rolling out the House Republican plan to grow Michigan’s economy.
The package of bills comes after the Governor’s economic council determined that Michigan needs a “bold, coordinated economic growth plan.” House Republicans laid out multiple proposals that form elements of the state’s growth plan, including reducing the income tax for Michiganders and small businesses, cutting red tape, streamlining the regulatory environment, and increasing accountability of taxpayer-funded economic development projects.
“I’m proud to join my fellow Republicans in leading the charge to rebuild Michigan’s economy,” said Wozniak, R-Shelby Township. “Regardless of what national talking heads say, inflation is hitting families and small businesses hard. We must consider legitimate reforms that will reduce taxation on residents and businesses and strengthen checks and balances in economic incentive programs.”
House Republicans said a coordinated economic growth strategy should include:
- Respect and provide good stewardship of state funds in economic development programs
- A reduction in red tape and regulation, making it easier for job providers to grow and add employees
- Objectively measure outcomes of workforce development programs
- Increase paychecks by decreasing income taxes on workers
- Restore right-to-work to reduce the cost state contracted services
